Have you ever taken time to date yourself?

I admit it’s not something that I thought about doing before I became a coach, but I fully endorse it now. As a woman who wants (and needs) healthy self-esteem, you have to get to know yourself. What better way to do that than to go out and enjoy time alone. Please keep in mind that alone doesn’t equate to lonely. In this case, it means you are comfortable enjoying your own company.

So what do you think? Does dating yourself sound like something you’d like to try? Just so you know, it doesn’t matter if you’re single, in a relationship, or married, you should always take some time to get to know yourself.

It’s okay and encouraged to get dressed up and look your best when you go out. Why not? In the past, you’ve dressed up for everyone else. Why treat yourself with so little importance? When you look good, you feel good.

Pick a restaurant you’ve always wanted to visit for dinner. This is the perfect time to try something new. Order whatever you’d like and enjoy. Have a glass of wine and take in the atmosphere. Make every moment count. There is no rush. You should also have dessert.

If you’d like the night to continue, go for a walk or go watch a movie. There are usually plenty of local events that you enjoy for little or nothing. Take advantage of them. That’s a great way to meet new people and learn about your city.

When all is said and done, head home and put on your favorite jammies and journal about how it made you feel. Be sure to document all the feelings that came up for you. Write about what you enjoyed and what made you feel uncomfortable. Most importantly, choose a date when you will do it again.

Being alone gets easier the more you do it. Don’t get discouraged, you are learning a new skill. Be gentle with yourself and enjoy the process.
